INTEGRATION WITH CUTTING UNIT
Magnetic separation plays a vital role in the efficient recovery of valuable metals during catalytic converter recycling. Magnetic separators are utilized to selectively extract ferromagnetic materials from the milled converter substrate. During mechanical processes such as crushing and grinding, both valuable components such as platinum group metals (PGMs), and various contaminants can become part of the material stream. Implementing magnetic separation at this stage ensures the effective removal of ferromagnetic impurities, which enhances the purity of the recovered material and is essential for maximizing the economic value and overall recovery efficiency of PGMs.
The Magnetic Drum Separator is a high-performance solution designed to efficiently separate ferrous materials from bulk solids. Utilizing a rotating drum embedded with powerful permanent magnets, this device attracts and retains magnetic particles as the feed material passes over its surface. As the drum rotates, the collected ferrous materials are discharged into a separate outlet, completing the separation process.
The presence of iron particles introduced primarily during the crushing and cutting stages can pose significant operational risks, including equipment blockage, increased wear, and reduced efficiency in downstream chemical processing steps. Even minor ferromagnetic fragments can interfere with the de-canning process and compromise the integrity of subsequent separation stages. To prevent such issues, a magnetic separator is strategically positioned immediately after the cutting unit, ensuring the consistent removal of ferrous contaminants and maintaining smooth process flow throughout the recycling line.
Magnetic Drum Separators are available in a range of configurations to suit varying operational requirements. Standard models feature drum diameters between 300 mm and 1200 mm, with widths ranging from 300 mm to 2000 mm. These systems are equipped with high-strength neodymium (NdFeB) magnets capable of generating magnetic field intensities up to 12,000 Gauss. Engineered for both continuous and batch operations, Magnetic Drum Separators can be seamlessly integrated into existing conveyor and material handling systems, offering robust and maintenance-friendly solutions for ferrous metal removal.
