Recycling of Vehicles Batteries
An electirical vecihles (EVs) is the name given to vehicles powered by electricity.
They get their energy from storable batteries. Not an invention of modern times, the electric vecihles has a long and storied history.
Electric vehicles were in vogue at the beginning of the 19th and 19th century, but mass-produced those using the internal combustion engine and using gasoline brought the electric end to an end. The energy crises of the 1970s and 1980s covered a short-lived interest in electric cars, but did not massively hit a market. Since the 2000s, those in battery and power management technologies, concerns and greenhouse cars are automatically favored. 2021 is the world’s best-selling electric vehicle Volkswagen ID.3
Advantages of Electrical Vehicles
Electric vehicles have some advantages over internal combustion engine vehicles; they reduce local air pollution, reduce dependence on oil and oil-importing countries. Also, for many countries, high oil prices have an adverse effect on their balance of payments; hinders their economic development.
Considering their potential benefits, some of the reasons electric cars are not widely adopted is that they face obstacles and limitations. As of 2010, electric cars are significantly more expensive than ordinary combustion engine vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles due to the additional costs of lithium-ion batteries. But, battery prices are decreasing with mass production and are expected to decrease further. Other reasons that prevent the spread of electricial vehicles ; As a private or public enterprise, the lack of charging stations and limited range are the concerns of drivers that their batteries will run out before they reach their destination and they will be stuck on the road.
Some governments develop policies and offer economic stimulus packages to overcome existing barriers. Thus, they support developments in electric vehicles and batteries technology to increase the sales of electric cars. Various national and local governments are reducing the purchase price of electric cars and other rechargeable hybrid vehicles by reducing taxes, providing various subsidies.
Sustainability has become an important issue for the electric vehicle industry after the world’s chip crisis.
New Method for Recycling Electric Vehicle Batteries
Lithium-ion batteries require intensive mining work that is at odds with sustainability. In other words, although electric vecihles technology reduces the pollution in the use of vehicles, it causes pollution in production. Process Makina explained that through the recycling process, 95% of the metals in batteries can be recovered and a purity level comparable to virgin material can be achieved. The recycled cobalt, manganese and nickel metals used in the new battery cell were collected from battery waste through a low-energy hydrometallurgical process.
All this will make Process Makina’s facility the largest battery recycling facility in Turkey.
